Things to do in LA

Non-touristy things to do in LA 🌊

Welcome to our "things to do" series

Join us for the next few months as we share our top places and things to do from our favorite cities. We hope these places will help inspire your plans on Whatever. ✨

We know how it feels to use a million different review sites to find the best place to go with your friends. You end up spending more time doing research than enjoying the experience itself!

Sit back, relax, and let us make the plan for you.

This week we’re starting off in the city of angels 👼 Los Angeles.

Why does it feel so difficult to find exciting, affordable and of course, aesthetic restaurants to go out with your friends in LA (or anywhere for that matter)?

Forget about your basic bitch group dinners at Catch LA or Nobu. Take a look at these places you need to visit instead. 👀

📍Mercado

Holy guacamole (i'm so sorry for saying this, but I had to lol). 😬

Whether you're looking for a casual lunch, a lively happy hour, or a vibrant dinner, Mercado is an amazing choice for sophisticated Mexican dining in LA.

You gotta try their bomb-ass strawberry agua fresca and jicama shrimp taco. They ditched the boring tortilla and replaced it with radish, making it a super rad dish. 🥁

Their happy hour goes down every Tuesday to Friday from 3PM to 6PM. That means you'll be sippin' on at least 10 Mexican Sangrias and feeling good by 5PM.

*Queues the TikTok song, "give me 1 margarita imma open my legs"*

Trust me, you'll thank me later.

📍Perch LA

Let's talk about this place that is kinda leaning towards basic. You've probably seen this restaurant all over Instagram, but hey, it's LA – a little bit of basic is okay to embrace.

Perch is a must-try if you're up for some good food paired with breathtaking, unobstructed views of the DTLA skyline. Their rooftop bar & steak frites is a classic.

You'll definitely find people snapping pics for IG left and right, but who cares? It's totally worth it, so go ahead and take your pic too. Embrace the basic, my friends.

If you're reading this and thinking to yourself, "i'm not basic" then you're lying to yourself.

📍Ruen Pair

Don’t be fooled by the appearance, this place is a top hit in Thai town in East Hollywood and you will always find a line outside the door.

While you’re waiting, check out the authentic Thai shops in the plaza filled with durian and tamarind-flavored snacks (and other flavors you won’t be able to pronounce).

At Ruen Pair, the focus is all on the food. Their papaya salad, pad thai, and crab cake are the stars of the show. Of course, get the Thai tea! Be careful tho, it’s strong and may or may not give you the jitters.

Day in LA Plan

If you're looking for authentic, non-touristy experiences in LA, fear not! We've got you covered with an amazing full-day plan that'll have you feeling like a true local.

📍Pacific Palisades

Here's the plan for your perfect visit in the Pacific Palisades! First up, an early morning stroll on the beach to kickstart the morning vibes.

Then, get ready for some serious window shopping at the Pacific Palisades shops. Reformation (my personal fav), Isabel Marant, Paige, and Brandy Melville—all in one spot.

Sundays are extra special with the local farmers market. Head over for fresh produce and yummy snacks crafted by local businesses.

When you start to get hangry, don't miss the chance to savor some delicious Italian at Angelini's. If you're feeling kinda bored, take a detour and tour some open houses just for fun.

📍Drive down Pacific Coast Highway

Alright, buckle up for a scenic joyride down PCH, a breathtaking coastal view you won't wanna miss. While you're there, keep an eye out for those famous pink and black houses in Santa Monica (have you seen the memes?!).

Afterwards, Venice Beach awaits, and it's time to hit up Abbot Kinney— street fashion, art, and food! Don't forget to swing by Salt & Straw for some ice cream. You gotta try the pear & blue cheese flavor. Sounds bizarre, but it's surprisingly pretty good.

📍Koreatown

It's dinnertime and you're headed straight to Ktown. Prepare your taste buds. There are two KBBQ hotspots to hit up: Ahgassi Gopchang for some beef intestine and Oo Kook Korean BBQ for AYCE! 🍖

After eating your weight in KBBQ, cool down with some Korean shaved ice, Bingsu, at Sul & Beans in MaDang plaza. Be sure to try out Asian flavors like sesame and taro, but personally, our favorite flavor is earl grey.
